Meet the Team

Colin Hopkins (MBE)

(Director of Education LDBE)

Colin has been Director of Education for the Diocese of Lichfield since 2006. Previously he worked for the Diocese of Southwark and the National Society/Archbishops’ Council. He was Secretary to the Church Schools Review Group (chaired by the late Lord Dearing) which published The Way ahead: Church of England Schools in the New Millennium (2001).

Claire Shaw

(Deputy Director of Education LDBE)

Claire has twenty years teaching experience. This includes two headships and twelve years’ experience as SENCO. She has worked in both inner city and rural schools. Claire was a Consultant Leader for Bristol City Council and has extensive experience of coaching in a range of school settings.

Mark Cooper

(Head of RE, CDA & SIAMS Inspector)

Mark joined the team in 2017. He brings with him a wealth of experience. This includes seven years in commerce and twenty-five years teaching experience. Mark has been Head of RE in an inner city 11-16 school in Handsworth, Birmingham and an 11-18 school in Wolverhampton. He was a PGCE mentor for Birmingham University; RE lead for a SCITT and has led a number of CPD’s both locally and nationally. Most recently he was an Assistant Principal of an inner city CE school with a focus on SIAMS, PSHE, SMSC and Worship. He has fourteen years’ experience as a SIAS/SIAMS inspector.

Alex Wolvers

(Leading on Mission & CDA)

Alex has worked in CE primary and middle schools in the UK and internationally. She has an MA in Mission and Evangelism and a diploma in cross cultural studies. Alex managed the RE Quest website as part of her work for Youth for Christ. She joined the team in 2017 as a CDA with a focus on Mission.

Rosemary Woodward

(CDA & SIAMS Inspector)

Rosemary joined the team in 2008. Rosemary is a SIAMS inspector and leads the LDBE – Kenya Church School partnership initiative. She has an MA in RE and an extensive teaching background.

Jane Crouch

(CDA)

Jane is an experienced practitioner which includes eighteen years as headteacher of a successful CE school. As head she led her primary school through inspections, gaining outstanding for both SIAMS and Ofsted. Jane is a Local Leader of Education and mentor for NPQH.

Trace Parton

(CDA)

Trace has thirty years teaching experience. She has recently been a very successful primary headteacher leading her school through two outstanding church inspections. She is an educational consultant focusing in English, R.E. & Leadership. She has NPQH, a PGCE in Educational Leadership and is accredited in art therapy.

Vickie Longson

(CDA)

Vickie has worked in Church of England primary schools in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire for almost twenty years. She has a BA in theology and religious studies. Vickie has substantial experience in EYFS. Vickie has recent experience as a senior leader and has led her schools through successful SIAMS and Ofsted inspections.

Huw Bishop

(Assistant to the Director of Education & Diocesan Improvement Adviser)

Huw has extensive experience of leadership, having been Principal and Executive Principal of three successful Church of England secondary schools. Huw is Assistant to the Diocesan Director of Education and SIAMS Manager.  Huw has extensive experience as a SIAS/SIAMS and Ofsted inspector.

Paula LLoyd

(PA to the Diocesan Director of Education & Administrative Officer)

Joining the Diocesan team in 2002 my primary function is to assist the Director of Education in carrying out his duties. The administrative role in appointing and supporting foundation governors and those of the Cathedral and Abbey Door Projects are just a few of her other responsibilities.

Steve Rayner

(Property Adviser)

Steve is a qualified architect. He is able to provide advice to headteachers and principals and governing bodies on school buildings and land and in particular for those schools that bear responsibility for the premises. He advises site trustees on land and charity matters. Prior to joining the team in 2007, Steve worked as an architect in both the private and public sector.

Heather Fawcett

(Administrative Assistant)

Joining the Education Department in 2004 Heather provides administrative support to the team.
